Description
Johnny Jump-Up | Viola tricolor
Do you remember the first seed you ever planted? Our earliest memories of plants- whether from childhood or later in life- become the roots of life-long relationships with plants. Johnny-Jump-Ups were the first seeds planted by Hudson Valley Seed Co co-founder K Greene in nursery school. His memories of planting the tiny seeds, bringing the seedlings home, and planting them under the crabapple tree remain vivid because these Wild Pansies came back every year- keeping the familial bond alive. Make new ever-lasting memories with your plant kin by sowing these hearty, edible, wild pansies.Seed Starting Successfully

Details
Easy to grow early-season blooms can be directly sowed by scattering seeds in a cultivated patch, either in late fall or early spring. Johnny Jump Ups will grow in a variety of conditions--from partial sun to full sun, and even in dry conditions. Plant under trees or in any bare area of the garden. Does well in low maintenance container gardens as well. Self-sows and comes back year after year early spring.
Olly Costello explores themes of interconnectedness, cosmology and emergence. In this cut paper illustration, they tenderly depict the true story of our co-founder K Greene planting seeds for the first time- Johnny Jump Up seeds given by his preschool teacher.
