Selecting a Tree for Your Yard

Trees are an investment. Understanding your yard’s sunlight, soil quality, and more, will guide you to selecting a specimen that will last for many years.

Plan ahead when buying a tree, it is an investment that requires care.

  • Consider the “obstacles” in your landscape such as powerlines, your house, a neighbor’s fence, other trees and property lines.
  • Choose locations with the mature size of your tree in mind.
  • Check the sun/shade conditions throughout the day to determine hours of sun.
  • What are the soil conditions? Wet, dry or well draining.

You’ve decided on the placement and understand the conditions of the area. Now let’s take a look at the vast options offered at Gertens! Note: there are cultivars of the various trees listed.
