Pruning Season for Common Plants

When to prune trees and shrubs is a question we get often. It depends on the type of plant you have. The following is a list of the best times to prune which plants. Note: dead wood can be removed at any time. Gertens has the right tools for the job.  By-pass pruners are the best choice since they will not crush the wood during cutting. Medium branches, those under 2.5" in diameter require a good set of loppers.

Note: Asterisks indicate species that should be pruned within the month AFTER flowering, with the exception of removing dead wood
