July in Minnesota is typically the beginning of hot, dry days and warm nights. Going hand-in-hand with this is increased use of water, the most important and, frequently, the most taken for granted resource the world possesses.

Water, the essence of life!

Some interesting facts: The earth is 71% water; however, only 3% of that water is potable or drinkable. Of that 3%, 30% is ground water and only 0.3% surface water. It has been estimated by the United Nations that by 2020, 2 out of every 3 people on earth will be suffering moderate to severe water shortages, and 1 out of 6 will have no regular access to drinking water. In the US, almost 100 gallons of drinking water is used per person every day. In Minnesota, total water use increased 55% between 1985 and 2003, which is about twice the percentage increase in population during that same period
