What is the difference between full-sun, partial-sun, and shade?

Full sun is six or more hours of direct sunlight (Note: afternoon sun is the hottest).

• West side: plants that like it hot and dry. 

Part sun is four to six hours of sunlight including some afternoon sun.

• East side of your house, stick with shade plants.

Part shade is four to six hours of sun before midday.

• East side of your house, stick with shade plants.

Full shade is less than four hours of sun.
