Rhododendron simsii

These are evergreen azaleas. They prefer lower tempuratures of 55-65ËšF, making them quite hardy for porch areas. When indoors, place the potted azalea in a bright position but out of direct sun. You can move the pot outdoors once the threat of frost has passed in the spring. Move it back indoors before the first frost of fall.

Keep soil moist but not soaked. Well draining soil will help prevent overwatering. Place the azalea in the sink and water it until water streams out of the drainage holes at the base of the pot. Mist daily to keep this plant's desired humidity.

After the azalea is finished blooming, you can repot it into a container one size bigger. These plants prefer well draining acidic, lime-free soil.

To encourange new blooms, the azalea will need about six weeks of nighttime temperatures between 40 and 55ËšF in order to form buds. After flowering remove the dead flowers.
